I create quilted artwork, handbags, and accessories that are both whimsical and
sophisticated. I merge traditional quilting methods with modern technologies to
generate my own distinct style of handmade goods.
Leaving behind a corporate science career in Cambridge, MA, I moved to Austin in
2002 and established The Crafty Monkey to produce and sell my quilted art and
accessories.
The design shapes, fabric prints, thread lines, and quilting textures that I
employ result in a unique and instantly recognizable style that transcends
subject matter and medium. My fabric choices are often bold and vibrant, with
fibers and materials ranging from cotton and silk prints to bamboo, sparkle
vinyl and yarn.
My wallhangings are small quilts composed of fabric, thread and batting, and are
typically based on my own sketches and photographs. My body of work includes
series of psychedelic landscapes, iconic musicians, cartoon animals, and science
textbook illustrations, as well as many other abstract or custom works.
My line of fabric accessories provides a fun and practical way to display my
work. I design with an eye for quality, durability and ease of use. I have
earned a loyal customer base for my items such as headbands, hair clips,
bracelets, guitar straps, and handbags, and frequently receive positive feedback
from satisfied customers who continue to use their Crafty Monkey creations for
many years.
