These are quilted designs I created based on the illustrations in The Ecological Relations of Roots, a book published in 1919 on the root structures of Midwestern US prairie plants.
I start each piece with plain muslin and quilt a grid for the underground. I then free motion quilt sky, plants and root structures so each piece is a little different. I try to balance scientific accuracy and design with each of my interpretations.
I place each piece into a 3.5" bamboo embroidery hoop that can be hung on a nail, screw or hook. Spot clean with a damp clothh. There is a selection of colors during checkout. Please ask if you would like it made in a custom color at no extra cost.
