This is the first of a series of quilted wall hangings designs I made based on the illustrations in The Ecological Relations of Roots, a book published in 1919 on the root structures and behavior of Midwestern US prairie plants.
I start each wall hanging with plain muslin and quilted a 1 inch grid where 1 inch equals 1 foot. I then free motion quilted plants and root structures while looking at the illustrations. I try to balance scientific accuracy, design and the sewing medium with each of my interpretations.
This example is dark brown on cream and I have included other favorite dark colors in the color selection. Please ask if you would like it made in a custom color at no extra charge.
The wall hanging is finished with a coordinating binding and hanging sleeve.
