The Ecological Relations of Roots Series

I just fell in love with the illustrations in The Ecological Relations of Roots published a century ago in 1919 by John Ernest Weaver. The drawings of the root structures were drawn as they were being excavated and to specific measurements. The Introduction acknowledges Miss Annie Mogensen and Mrs. F. C. Jean for their assistance in drawing many of the root systems.

I used one of the illustrations as inspiration for a piece in my September 30 Day Art Challenge and revisited it as a jumping off point for a series. I varied the thread and binding color, size, number of plants and types of root structures.
